Charity F. Felts, Associate General Counsel

Prior to joining the University of Nevada, Reno, Charity Felts was a Deputy Attorney General in the State of Nevada Attorney General’s Office, where she provides advice and counsel to the State’s personnel division and litigated numerous employment matters in state and federal court and before administrative bodies. Prior her work at the State of Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Charity was an attorney at a well-respected Reno law firm practicing in a variety of civil litigation matters, including defense of local governmental entities.  

Charity holds a B.S. in business management from the University of Nevada, Reno and a J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law. Charity has presented on a variety of employment law topics throughout the state. She is a proud Nevadan and a proud alumna of the University.

Scott Husbands, Associate General Counsel
Office of General Counsel, University of Nevada, Reno

Prior to joining the University of Nevada, Reno, Scott worked as a Senior Deputy Attorney General in the Nevada Attorney General’s Office. There, his practice focused exclusively on employment law and general counsel advice on employment law issues for numerous state entities. Before transitioning to public service, Scott spent over 21 years working in the legal industry as a practicing attorney, law clerk, information technology analyst and paralegal.

Scott has extensive experience in a wide variety of practice areas including management side employment matters, public entities, business and transactional, intellectual property, litigation and trial practice, and corporate and board governance. 

Scott graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Penn State University and received his J.D. cum laude from the Gonzaga University School of Law. As a result of his experience, Scott has presented on numerous employment topics pertaining to public entities. 

While not a Nevada native himself, Scott is married to a fourth generation Nevada native and alumna of the University. Scott is active in the local community and is proud to call Reno, Nevada and the University his new home.

Jonathan McGuire, Associate Attorney

Jonathan McGuire is an associate attorney with Simons Hall Johnston practicing primarily in employment and labor law as well as commercial litigation. Jonathan’s practice focuses on advising and advocating for clients navigating the challenges associated with employment law.

Jonathan has experience litigating and advising clients regarding discrimination, harassment, retaliation, confidentiality, non-disclosure, trade secrets, non-competition clauses, non-solicitation clauses, as well as a variety of other employment relates issues.

Jonathan has experience representing employers before federal and state courts in Nevada, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Nevada Equal Rights Commission, the Department of Labor, the Nevada Office of the Labor Commissioner, and the Nevada Department of Administration – Workers Compensation Section. Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan completed a judicial clerkship with the Second Judicial District Court for the State of Nevada. While attending the University of Colorado Law School, Jonathan also benefitted from serving as a judicial extern to Justice Boatright on the Colorado Supreme Court.
